ULTIMA CENA
The Cenacolo, also known as the Ultima Cena, is one of the most famous paintings in the world, the work was painted between 1494 and 1498 by Leonardo Da Vinci.
For the creation of this unique work, Leonardo conducted a thorough investigation creating an infinite number of underdrawings. Leonardo, abandoning the traditional method of fresco painting, depicted the scene "a secco" on the wall of the refectory. Traces of gold and silver metallic foils have been found which testify to the artist's desire to create more realistic figures including precious details. These are the same details that attracted Robert Polidori's attention because he was thus able to document the technical factors and the environment that contributed to the deterioration of the fresco, which has undergone numerous restorations. Robert in the details of his works captures the poetic quality, thus giving us a testimony of the present and past history of the painting itself.
