HORSES
The Artist photography captures density, harmony, mystery - Images that capture an inner quality or essence. The Artist chose to photograph horses for their point of view grace and beauty and why there is a purity of soul connected with the horse over the centuries in many different cultures around the world. They are beautiful creatures that inspire mythology. In romantic terms, like the old English master painters, and reflected on childhood dreams and memories, the Artist was inspired by their physicality and their seductive shapes. These portraits were taken in various parts of England and have been an ongoing project since 1998. Rock started this job after an advertising session with an Englishman Naturalist, Sir David Attenborough. He spoke highly of his experiences in Africa with the animals he observed for BBC programmes. It inspired Rock to photograph in nature and to use the camera in a reportage way, but my years as a portrait photographer also made her create a space where the Horse and her could interact. The Artist often created a sort of on-location study and isolated the horses to make them look more like icons or symbols. Capturing an expression, movement that showcases the grace of their being. This series represents the spirit of the Horse, the invisible quality that makes them unique. The work is rooted in serenity and has a spiritual connection.
