RAFFAELE CORNAGGIA
Raffaele Cornaggia is an Italian artist, born in Cosio Valtellino, has distinguished himself through his narrative art of futuristic worlds. From simple objects of common use left to die and rust, Cornaggia exhumes the soul of every valve of every screw, of every bolt, by taking on the burden of “Mater Unica” giving nobility and infusing new life back to the useful things that man has inexorably discarded because they are lost in value and use.
Cornaggia’s Art does not stop at today, it remains indelible in the present, in the future, in our minds. Infinite elaborations of objects that have lost their function return to assume a superior and majestic imaginative role, they take on dreamlike appearances, they float in the cosmic imagination, they mock and deceive even the Artist who observes and can’t rest from hearing screeching of iron and cries and howls and yelps, clicking and hoarse thundering puffs of metal gears.
‘Objects fascinate me; I talk to them, I stop to think about who used them, touched them, their history.
My works are unique, assembled only with screws and bolts, without the use of a welding machine. In this genre I am the only one in the world.
The mere and simplistic representation of reality, however, did not excite me and I found correspondence in the crazy visions of Salvador Dalì, my mentor, the one who whipped my imagination; it gave birth in me to a passion for form and composition’.
The project Scraps World, was born from the waste of human civilisation; he is a creative person who, in cathartic days, has achieved wonderful ‘things’, which intrigue, often provoke, amuse, invite reflection; works that discards can never be.
In 2016 the “Scraps World Educational” project was born with the aim of carrying out educational workshops on how to create works with waste in student classes. The project enters various Italian schools of all levels, also expatriating in Germany, at the Munich European School. In Indonesia and Nepal, with the collaboration of EduCab and W.W.F., school children are making manifesto-works with rubbish collected along the beaches.
