RICCARDO MAGHERINI
Riccardo Magherini is an Italian fine art photographer, born and resides in Florence, is renowned for his frenetic and layered reportage capturing of street scenes, encompassing the multi-sensory energy of the cities which distill into photographs which resemble abstract paintings.
Magherini’s photography devours a painterly quality, and with the endless illusion of depth, by overlapping multiple impressions, each photograph explores the phenomenon of time, more specifically, the movement that time creates.
His unique reportage style was established during a trip to Tokyo in 2011. Fascinated with the concept of time overlap to form a multifaceted impression of a single place. Riccardo started photographing the city as a medium to capture his feelings of estrangement and wonder. Since then, Margherini has continuously developed his expressive style to resemble time lapses that merge his memories and emotions from any given place. Vast in scale and depth, his work denies a single viewpoint, and instead signals at various characters, colours and narratives throughout the viewing experience.
‘I like to be surprised by the unknown and by the delicacy of the nuances, tonal and aesthetic. I like to be inside the environment to shoot and, at the same time, I love having the feeling to be isolated, a foreign without any possibility to communicate but eye contact and gestures. A sort of flâneur, in a way. Things and people merge into each other in an amazing huge clanging living organism. I wanted to portray this’.
Represented by galleries across London, Paris and New York, Riccardo has achieved global recognition by Awards including International Photography Awards, Prix de la Photographie Paris, London International Creative Competition, Siena Creative Awards, International Aperture Awards, The Epson International Pano Awards and Creative Photography Award to name but a few.
